In August of 2004, the former parishes of St. Mary, Dike; Sacred Heart, Grundy Center; and Queen of Heaven, Reinbeck, merged to form Holy Family Parish. The parish began plans to build a new larger church centrally located and nestled in the fields of rural Reinbeck, Iowa. In 2007, construction began on St. Gabriel Church under the leadership of Father Dennis Quint with completion in late 2008. In February 2009, St. Gabriel Church was officially dedicated. The combination of St. Patrick Church, Parkersburg, Iowa and St. Gabriel Church, Reinbeck, Iowa formed the new faith community of Holy Family Parish. St. Patrick serves the north end of the parish, with St. Gabriel serving the south end of the parish.
St. Gabriel Church seats approximately 500 people to accommodate parishioners from the southern portion of the parish at one Mass. There is a social hall and Faith Formation rooms, as well as an area in which parents can participate in adult education while their students are in Faith Formation. The few movable walls envisioned for the Faith Formation/hall space will be made up of panels that lock together, not the accordion type vinyl walls, thus affording good quality and a fine learning environment as well as flexibility for larger groups. These types of movable walls are even more sound proof than traditional 2×4 walls with insulation.
In 2010, Father David G. Kucera became the second pastor and is the current pastor.
